Uludağ Electricity Distribution Inc. (UEDAŞ) continues to expand and improve its Automatic Meter Reading Systems (OSOS) in the areas it serves. Technological advancements in electricity meters, modems, software, and the progress of telecommunications have significantly enhanced the functionality of OSOS.

Uludağ Electricity Distribution Inc. aims to achieve higher quality and more stable communication in OSOS by utilizing Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) communication-enabled meters, a new communication method in GSM technology. The main advantages of the NB-IoT system include low power consumption, extended range for meter reading in indoor and underground electrical measurement systems, efficiency compared to alternative communication methods, lower latency in data transfer, and maximum data flow.

During the integration of NB-IoT technology into the Automatic Meter Reading System, UEDAŞ collaborated with Vodafone Telecommunications Inc. for communication and Taran Meter Electronic Industry and Trade Ltd. Co., the distributor of Landis+Gyr meters in Turkey, for smart meters. Through this collaboration, meter reading via NB-IoT was integrated into the system. With the widespread adoption of NB-IoT technology in UEDAŞ’s responsibility area, the aim is to increase customer satisfaction over the years by using this communication method for managing street lighting measurement and fixtures, transformer alarms, events, and warning systems.”
